When people face urgent legal questions, finding trustworthy information quickly matters.

Recently, Electric Citizen partnered with LawHelpMN.org to help launch a new landing page that gathers key immigration resources in one place: www.lawhelpmn.org/immigration-legal-help

The page was created in response to Operation Metro Surge, a controversial immigration enforcement effort that has created significant disruption and uncertainty for many Minnesota communities. The goal was to provide a clear starting point where people can quickly understand their rights and find trusted legal help.

Organizing information around real-world situations

Immigration law can be complex, and during stressful moments people often don’t know where to start. The new page organizes resources around the situations people are most likely to face.

Visitors can quickly find information such as:

  • If someone they know has been detained, providing guidance on locating detained individuals and understanding next steps
  • How to prepare in case of detention or deportation, including family preparedness resources and legal planning materials
  • Know-your-rights information when interacting with ICE, helping people understand their legal protections
  • Where to find free immigration legal help, with links to clinics and organizations providing assistance across Minnesota

By structuring the page around these real-world questions, the resource helps people locate trusted information quickly during uncertain situations.

A collaborative effort

The project brought together several partners working toward a shared goal of expanding access to reliable legal information.

  • Alliance for a Better Minnesota — provided initial design concepts and content
  • Legal Services State Support — led the legal resource strategy and information organization
  • Electric Citizen — provided pro bono design and technical consulting, and built and launched the page

Our team worked with partners to ensure the page is easy to navigate and presents critical information clearly for users seeking help.

Because LawHelpMN’s website runs on Drupal, we were able to build and publish the landing page quickly within their existing platform, ensuring the resource could be integrated seamlessly into their broader legal information system.

Why we said yes

At Electric Citizen, we work primarily with public sector and mission-driven organizations. Many of the websites we build exist to help people access critical services and information.

When the team behind LawHelpMN approached us about helping publish this resource, we saw an opportunity to support that mission. Ensuring people can quickly find accurate legal information—especially during stressful situations—is exactly the kind of work we’re proud to contribute to.

Projects like this remind us that good digital infrastructure isn’t just about technology. It’s about making important information accessible to the people who need it.

We’re grateful for the chance to support organizations like LawHelpMN that are working every day to expand access to justice in Minnesota.
